HCPSS's Mathematics Program and MD's College & Career-Ready StandardsThe Howard County Public School System's mathematics program is built upon the HCPSS Mathematics Standards, which are aligned to Maryland's College and Career-Ready Standards (CCRS) and the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSS-M) (CCSS-M en Español). The mathematics standards set a rigorous definition of college and career readiness by demanding that students develop a depth of understanding and ability to apply mathematics to real-life situations, as college students and people in the workforce regularly do. Howard County's mathematics program calls on students to practice applying mathematical ways of thinking to real world issues and challenges; they require students to think and reason mathematically. The free Milestone Videos (produced by GreatSchools, 2015) highlight some of the key concepts in K-8 mathematics and are accompanied by relevant articles, videos, activities, and worksheets that parents/ families can use to help their children with mathematics at home. |
